My name is Donna DuBour. I’m a senior but grew up in Orange, was a member of the first class to go from seventh to 12th at Mahar, then left to pursue college and a career. I was employed by Raytheon Company for 50-plus years and held a top secret clearance my entire career. I traveled extensively for Raytheon to cover assignments outside the country as well as throughout the United States. I held a management position at the time of my retirement/departure from the company.

I’m currently semi-retired and have come back to settle in our small community. The current spots open for selectman have opened up, for me, an opportunity to participate in the workings of town management and give back utilizing the strengths gained throughout my career.

My candidacy is for the three-year selectman position. The three-year span affords time to identify areas where growth is feasible and take advantage of those opportunities. It also affords the time necessary to prioritize areas of growth that lead to prosperity. It will be important to focus on those and pursue with intent to implement.

I am a property owner here in Orange, so I am familiar with the tax structure that is currently being imposed on us. I feel once we’re stronger and growing, we will experience the disappearance of this current downward economic trend and be able to focus on keeping our town’s finances healthy.

There are currently many factors here that, unaddressed, will continue to cripple this town. Due to the nature of these factors, being a Selectboard member will be a challenge requiring patience and persistence. I am thrilled to read press releases from other concerned citizens who have “thrown their hat in the ring.” I find there is a single thread running through the fabric of those of us who are new to the race. It is to face issues that need change, have the strength to initiate those changes, then move forward.

It is imperative however, that a majority (three) of new selectmen be voted on the board. Without new there will be no change. This town, our town is screaming for change. Please address the desperate need that is facing Orange at this time and show at least three new candidates your consideration. You won’t be sorry!
