BERNARDSTON — Students from the Full Circle School will embody historical figures from around the world, recounting their lives as Suleiman the Magnificent, Wangari Maathai, Rosa Parks and others during the upcoming World History Fair.
The annual fair will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Full Circle School, an independent elementary school at 21 Parmenter Road. The performances are co-directed by Heather Leeds and John Friends.
“It is a fun event,” Friends said. “Learning is fun.”
Guests can hear the answers to questions about the historical figures’ lives, such as “What was Plato’s claim to fame?” and “Did you know that Catherine the Great invented the roller coaster?”
These are just some of the facts that will be shared during the presentation, when students in first through sixth grades will take on the roles of figures spanning from the medieval and Renaissance ages to the modern time period.
“It is a one-month preparation process,” Friends said.
As part of the school’s history studies, the event gives students the chance to research an array of historical figures, and portray them through short speeches, songs and dance. The students even wear period-style costumes.
“Students research styles of clothing from their historical figure’s time period,” Friends explained, “and then collaborate with their parents to make costumes.”
