CHARLEMONT — The Academy at Charlemont, 1359 Route 2, will present “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” on Feb. 29 and March 6, both at 7:30 p.m., and on March 1 and March 7, both at 2 p.m.
The performance, which includes strobe lights, water-based fog and sounds of gunshots, is suitable for anyone 11 years old and older. This intimate version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s science fiction classic features two haunting narrators who speak to Dr. Henry Jekyll as the voices in his head, spurring him toward triumph and tragedy.
Tickets are $10, though the March 7 matinee is free. Purchase tickets online at: charlemont.org.
SHELBURNE FALLS — “Cultivating the Designer’s Mind: A Conversation with Authors Walter Cudnohufsky and Mollie Babize” will be held at the Franklin Land Trust office at 5 Mechanic St. on March 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Cudnohufsky and Babize will talk about their design philosophy and process through stories, illustrations and discussion about the role of conservation in the realm of land planning and design. One of their aims is to enhance the ability to understand the landscape and why we are drawn to particular places.
Cudnohufsky is a longtime teacher who founded and, for 20 years, directed the Conway School of Landscape Design. Babize has a master’s degree in landscape design from the Conway School, and has spent more than two decades doing land planning work in both the public and private realms.
There will be time for questions and answers after the talk. Books will be available to purchase.

ASHFIELD — There will be some sweet treats at the First Congregational Church of Ashfield, 429 Main St., when it hosts Maple Fest on March 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s the church’s annual celebration of the maple syrup season.
“I’m Canadian,” Minister David Jones said. “So, I am no stranger to good maple syrup. However, I am new to the particular treasures produced by our own Ashfield sugarhouses.”
Maple Fest will feature pancakes, sausage and a chance to win prizes from the 40 businesses that have contributed to the event. There will be two drawings with more than $600 in prizes in each. Lift tickets to Berkshire East, zipline tickets to Zoar Outdoor (which was recently purchased by Berkshire East), a day of rafting at Crab Apple Whitewater, cutlery from Lamson & Goodnow and more will be some of the prizes.
Tickets to the two drawings are available at Ashfield Hardware and Hair by the Lake and will also be sold that morning.
No reservations are required for the $10 per-person, all-you-can-eat breakfast.
