For the first time since 2014, the Greenfield hockey team will be the No. 1 seed in the Western Mass. Division 3A Tournament.

After a 17-3 regular season that led to the Wright Division championship, the Green Wave were awarded the No. 1 seed at the upcoming sectional tournament during Saturday’s seeding meeting at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield.

Greenfield received a first-round bye into the semifinals of the six-team bracket. It will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 4 Chicopee and No. 5 South Hadley, with that semifinal set for Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield. Chicopee and South Hadley play in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday at 8 p.m., also at the Olympia.

The last time Greenfield earned the No. 1 seed was 2014. Coincidentally, the draw was identical, with Chicopee beating South Hadley in the quarterfinal round to set up a semifinal matchup with the Wave. The Pacers won that meeting, 7-4, and eventually lost to Wahconah in the title game

Behind Greenfield, Amherst received the No. 2 seed. Wahconah is No. 3, and will play No. 6 Belchertown in a quarterfinal on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to see Amherst in the semifinal round.

The championship game is set for Thursday, March 5 at the Olympia.
