Over the years I’ve appreciated many issues of the Recorder, sharing important news from local to national. When Trump’s lies and immoral/illegal maneuverings are revealed, we have more cause to organize with others to “save our democracy” and remove him from his “throne” before he does even greater damage.
What is missing in the Recorder is more exposes and analyses of savage inequality, extreme militarism, racism, and climate crisis … and how these are all linked. Exploiting “natural resources” for the greed of corporate elites has radically upset the “balance of the web of life,” while dumping toxic wastes into water, air and soil.
It seems people have lost their sense of decency, common sense, community — witnessed by the extreme behavior of Republican Senators denying witnesses and evidence of Trump’s “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Fake trial.
I was shocked and outraged to see the cartoon in the Feb. 17 issue: Bernie Sanders smiling at the end of a guillotine-rope (N.H. as the “head-chopper blade”) and Biden’s head below: “OK … now I feel the Bern.” This is the opposite of how Bernie thinks and acts. What I know of the guillotine is what the Nazis used to eliminate young German resisters. So I searched and found the cartoon I’d saved from Feb. 11 with an image of Bernie — by the same cartoonist and source — with an unflattering face of Bernie on a cube held by the hand of “voters,” trying to fit a square into a round hole (“DNC”). The voters want what the DNC has failed to provide for decades: what the people want, not what corporate elitists want.
I’d prefer the Recorder be more sensitive in choosing cartoons and not join the major media, which prefers “mainstream” politics that protects the elite. We need fair and revealing news from the Recorder. We all need to strive for the Common Good, truth, decency, compassion and “freedom.” Bernie is mobilizing the people to vote for these values, and that’s why I’m for Bernie and trusting the people to understand and to vote for what is best for all.
