BUCKLAND — The driver of a Ford pick-up truck escaped unharmed after his vehicle caught fire on Ashfield Road (Route 112) at around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday.
According to Buckland Police Officer Jacob Wrisley, the driver was headed south on Ashfield Road near the Buckland Recreation Area when he noticed smoke coming from under the hood of his truck.
The man pulled over and got out of the truck. When police officers and firefighters arrived, Wrisley said the truck was fully involved, prompting a call for mutual aid from the Shelburne, Ashfield and Colrain fire departments.
Firefighters on scene used foam to extinguish the fire, which had spread to and severely burned the cab of the truck. Traffic was temporarily diverted onto Depot Road and Purinton Road until the highway was cleared.
