Throughout my military career, I had some fantastic experiences. One of the best was as a test pilot. For several months, I tested a new transponder in the OV-1 Mohawk. I flew the borders of the United States in coordination with ground air defense personnel. I spent each day flying headings directed by them up to 22,000 feet. They made reliability charts for the new transponder. It was interesting and great fun. Flying that multi-million dollar aircraft made me realize what a wonderful experience for a small town boy from New England was. Twice, I landed it at the Miami International Airport. It was a twin engine turbo-prop by Grumman Aircraft.
