Winter Carnival: Get ready for “There’s Snow Place Like Home.” The 2020 Winter Carnival will be held Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. Kicking off the weekend is live downtown ice carving, the Parade of Lights and Glow Light Dance Party, followed by fireworks bursting over the iconic Poet’s Seat Tower. The fun continues throughout the weekend with a Family Fun Fest, Sleigh Bell Run, cribbage tournament, Breakfast with Olaf, cardboard sled race, K-9 Keg Pull, chili cook-off, vintage snowmobile display and more.

Winter Carnival Parade of Lights: Help the Greenfield Recreation Department light up the night and kick-off the Winter Carnival by entering your vehicle into the sixth annual Parade of Lights on Friday, Jan. 31. Decorated vehicles will travel from Newton School, along Main Street, down Federal Street, on to Beacon Street, and ending on Gerrett Street at Beacon Field. Prizes will be awarded for Best and Brightest, Artistic Illumination and Town Council Award. Registration is required to participate.

Winter Carnival Sleigh Bell Run: Registration is open for the Sleigh Bell Run, a 4-mile road race through a scenic course starting on Hope Street and running through the Highland Park area. Race to be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. Register in advance on RunReg.com or on the day of the race at Hope & Olive from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for multiple age divisions. First 50 entrants receive a T-shirt and sleigh bell bracelets. $30 to register. Youth under the age of 18 pay half-price.

Winter Carnival Chili Cook-Off: This year, the chili cook-off has been opened up to the public. Contact the Recreation Department at 413-772-1553 if you’re interested in participating or have questions. Registration is free and is required before the event. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

February Break Vacation Week: Sign up for a week of activities, games and outdoor fun for your child in kindergarten through sixth grade. This program takes place at 20 Sanderson St. from Tuesday, Feb. 18 to Friday, Feb. 21. Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with early and late care available. Includes walking field trips to Beacon Field for sledding, skating and fun in the snow. A lunch, afternoon snack and drink must be sent with each child. A morning snack is provided. Children must also bring appropriate winter clothing (boots, hats, gloves, etc). $120 for residents, $130 for non-residents. Additional fees for early and late care. Registration deadline is Feb. 4. A $25 late fee will be assessed for all late registrations.
