Sean O’Sullivan and Kyle Barnes came through with key goals to propel the Greenfield hockey team past host Drury, 2-1, in a Wright Division contest on Wednesday in North Adams. 

Barnes netted the game-winner three minutes and three seconds into the third period, with Shane Prusak and Kevin Baumann credited with the assist. 

“It was a great game,” Greenfield head coach Adam Bouchard said. “Our team played through a lot of adversity but they continued to play the Green Wave way and earned a win.”

The Blue Devils scored first, with Camden Abel rifling a shot home just over two minutes into the contest.

O’Sullivan evened the score with 46 seconds left in the first period off a dish from Bryan Baumann. 

Riley Drew stopped 12 shots in goal for the Wave while Greenfield made Nate Haley come up with 42 saves for Drury.

Greenfield (5-1, 4-0) stays on the road Saturday night against Assabet Valley.

Boys basketball

Hoosac Valley 49, Mohawk 35 — For three quarters, the Mohawk Trail boys basketball team was staring a huge home victory against a Berkshire County foe directly in the eyes.

The Warriors led 31-25 entering the fourth quarter against Hoosac Valley, but the visiting Hurricanes turned on their jets and outscored Mohawk by a 24-4 margin over the final eight minutes to capture a 49-35 independent win on Wednesday in Buckland.

“I’m really happy how we played through three quarters,” Mohawk coach Darren Schmidt said. “Especially after a quick turnaround after an overtime loss (to Smith Academy on Tuesday). They showed up and were resilient, unfortunately we couldn’t finish it out.”

Austin Sumner scored all 10 of his points in the third quarter to help the Warriors turn a one-point halftime advantage into a six-point lead. Anthony Moffatt tossed in seven points, while Tyler Dubreuil added five points for Mohawk Trail.

Drury 60, Pioneer 38 — Two teams that have played some of the most memorable games over the past few years met again in Northfield on Wednesday night. This time it was visiting Drury that handled its business, as Scott McGuire poured in 20 points to lift the Blue Devils to a 60-38 independent victory at Messer Gymnasium.

Pioneer trailed just 19-16 after one quarter, but Drury outscored the Panthers by a 41-22 margin the rest of the way.

Troy Emond’s 11 points led the way for the Panthers (2-4), as he drained a pair of 3-pointers. Jared Hubbard and Ryan Potter scored seven points each, and Jayden Fox tossed in six points.

■ In JV action Wednesday, Mahar clipped Athol, 49-35. Dilan Fountain led Athol with 10 points, while Jack Bonenfant added eight.

Girls basketball

Drury 62, Pioneer 52 — An 8-0 run in the fourth quarter got Pioneer back within four points, but visiting Drury closed the game strong and held on for a 62-52 independent victory on Wednesday night at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.

Emily Tibbetts and Sofia Walker keyed the late run for the Panthers (2-3), as the duo stepped up their defensive intensity to guide their team back within striking distance.

“I can’t praise their work enough,” Pioneer coach Mike Churchill said of the duo. “They gave us a chance to get back into the game.”

Pioneer guard Paige Loughman continued her torrid offensive start to the season, going for 21 points and 10 rebounds. Steph Scoville also posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards, while Walker scored five points and amassed five steals and Tibbetts went for four points and eight rebounds.

Next up is a trip to McCann Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.

Amherst 58, Frontier 42 — Amelia Sobieski scored a team-high 14 points, but visiting Frontier dug itself a 17-point halftime deficit and dropped a 58-42 independent contest to Amherst, Wednesday night.

Amherst (5-1) led 28-11 at halftime, but Frontier outscored the Hurricanes by a 31-30 margin after intermission. The Red Hawks (2-3) received 12 points from Kaitlyn Mackin and 10 from Marie Diemand.

Amherst’s Petua Mukimba notched a game-high 16 points, and Delaney MacPhetres added 13 points.

Wrestling

Franklin Tech 42, Granby 30 — Josh Brunelle, Colin Pettis and Brooks Medeiros all scored first-period pins to lift Franklin Tech to a 42-30 victory over Granby in a Suburban League North wrestling match, Wednesday in Turners Falls.

Brunelle won in 53 seconds at 132 pounds, Pettis earned a 27-second victory at 138 pounds, and Medeiros needed 1:37 to take care of business at 195 pounds for the Eagles (2-1, 1-0).

Kyle Brunelle earned a second-period pin at 145 pounds over Granby’s Gavin Gilburg. The Eagles won three matches via forfeitures.

Duggan 42, Athol 36 — Despite winning five-of-seven matches, the Red Raiders fell to Duggan, 42-36, in an independent match at Mallet Gymnasium.

All five of Athol’s wins came by pin. Riley Reed’s came at 138, Logan Kirwan at 145, Caleb Cox at 152, Luke Inniss at 160 and Jon Hicks at 195.
