AGAWAM — For the 12th consecutive year, Pierce Brothers Coffee Roasters of Greenfield will participate in Chefs for Jimmy, an annual fundraising event for the Jimmy Fund.
Sean and Darren Pierce, who started their business in 1994, plan to be one of roughly 30 culinary institutions to grace Chez Josef in Agawam on Jan. 24, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. to support patient care and cancer research at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Billed as a restaurant tasting fundraiser, the event will include local food, an opportunity drawing and a silent auction.
“It’s my favorite event to do because it’s for a great cause and people dress up (to the) nines for it and they don’t cut corners. Some of the food is some of the best food you’ll ever eat,” said Darren Pierce, adding that he’s had Kobe beef sliders and stuffed oysters in years past. “To donate to such a great charity … I love filling my calendar with stuff like that.”
Pierce said the eclectic mix of international cuisine makes guests feel like they’re on “a trip around the world.”
“Everybody tries to outdo each other on the food,” he said.
According to jimmyfund.org, Chefs for Jimmy has raised more than $1.8 million for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber since it was started in 1990. The event is hosted in memory of Neal Webber and Stan Winer, reportedly two long-time supporters of the Jimmy Fund.
Tickets are $100 and should be purchased in advance. Visit bit.ly/2YWJLIh for more information or to purchase tickets.
Each year’s event has a new theme. This year the theme is “One night of peace, love and food.” It is presented by Winer Levsky Group of UBS Financial Services Inc. and hosted by the Jimmy Fund Council of Western Massachusetts. It has been voted the “Best Charity Event” by The Valley Advocate’s “Best of Reader’s Poll” multiple times.
