In her effort to undermine an important bill on Beacon Hill, “An Act Relative to Forest protection,” Jenna Garvey (Re. “House Bill 897 would not significantly impact climate change,” Dec. 22, Recorder) stated, “approximately 50 percent of the terrestrial plants and animals listed under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act … rely on habitats other than mature forest for their existence.” The statement is misleading, if not utterly false. Many, if not most, of the species on the list are aquatic, coastal, wetland, or generalist species with regard to habitat. Not one of them has been proven to need logging in our public forests to survive.
MassWildlife needs to stop shilling for the logging industry and DCR, and wake-up to the climate crisis and realize business-as-usual is no longer viable if we are to help future generations survive.
