We all want to hold our destiny in our own hands but often times we use defiance as a means to show our individualism. As children we test the authority of our guardians by doing the opposite of what we are told; stand up when the powers that be order you to sit down. It happens when someone or a group of someones openly flouts or challenges authority.
Defiance can solidify our support for a particular candidate solely on the supporter wanting to make a statement about oneself rather than rational references about the candidate himself.
As humans we tend to crave for recognition but we also must be aware as to why we often act in such a manner.
