We need to ban “sanctuary cities” in Massachusetts. Moreover, our elected representatives should go a step further and require local governments to certify that they cooperate with federal immigration officials in order to obtain state funding.
For my part, I also find myself in complete agreement with Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson relative to his publicly stated belief that elected officials who defy federal immigration laws and allow their communities to become so-called “sanctuary cities” should be arrested.
Harboring of illegal criminal aliens, and similar actions, by such officials are not only grossly irresponsible, but clearly a breach of the public trust and contrary to community interests.
These elected officials are supposed to be working for us, the citizens who voted them into office, not for persons who unlawfully entered this country, and continue to violate our laws day after day after day.
In the months ahead, please support political candidates, like President Trump, at all levels of government who respect our laws and will help to continue to make America stronger and greater than it has ever been before.
We here on Cape Cod, and in Massachusetts, need to do our part in this honorable endeavor as well.
Ron Beaty
Barnstable County commissioner
