It’s traditional when the holidays roll around that news outlets reflect on what’s happened during the past year. That includes the Greenfield Recorder.
In looking back at 2019, the Recorder’s staff chose to focus on local news since we are first and foremost a community newspaper. We accomplished that through stories, photos and, yes, cartoons.
This end-of-the-year series begins Thursday with the first installation of Top 13 News Stories from 2019 — along with photos.
Why a baker’s dozen? Our team started with 10, but we kept coming up with more. Plus, we wanted to make sure all of Franklin County was represented.
The second and third installations will be published Friday and Saturday, respectively.
On Monday, we will begin stories about the year’s Top 10 Newsmakers of 2019, which will be spread over two days. Let’s see if our list matches those of our readers.
What else do we have planned?
Photographers Paul Franz and Dan Little have chosen their favorites shots from the year, enough to fill a page for each.
Likewise, Sports Editor Jeff Lajoie will be running a selection of the best local sports photos that appeared in that section.
Best of Blotter is a new feature this year.
The Recorder’s police logs typically contain serious entries. But reporter Domenic Poli, who handles the logs for the paper, has compiled the quirky and odd items that appeared. Features Editor Andy Castillo has created comic illustrations for several.
We have enough to parcel Best of Blotter over two days.
In features, check out the best 15 indie music albums of the year.
Another new item is Quotable Quotes — What Did They Say? Expect a hefty collection of meaningful quotes that appeared in the Recorder’s news stories.
We hope you enjoy our end-of-the-year features as much as we did compiling them.
