NORTHFIELD — Two sedans were involved in a head-on collision on Route 10 on Saturday, resulting in serious injuries to one driver.
According to a post on the Northfield Police Department’s Facebook page, the crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Route 10 was temporarily shut down so first responders could render care.
According to Northfield Police Sgt. Alexander Pirozhkov, a Gill man was the driver and sole occupant of a black sedan. The Northfield Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to free him from the vehicle. He was then airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment.
The driver sustained major injuries, and Pirozhkov said he is still in critical condition as of Monday.
Pirozhkov said the other vehicle, a silver hatchback sedan, had two occupants, a man and a woman, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation and the names of those involved have not been released at this time.
