In response to your request for opinions about the impeachment of Donald Trump, here is mine. I apologize for any redundancies from the testimonies in the committees, but these pertinent and overwhelming reasons cannot be repeated often enough.

From the very outset of the impeachment inquiry, it has bee clear that President Trump’s actions were impeachable. He asked a foreign nation for help in his 2020 campaign by investigating Joe Biden, a potential challenger, and he essentially threatened the president of Ukraine by withholding duly authorized funds that were needed in their ongoing conflict with Russia. This is abuse of power, plain and simple. Then, when this telephone call was revealed and the inquiry began, he directed people in his administration not to comply with subpoenas to tell the committee what they knew. This is obstruction of Congress, another impeachable act.

If these high crimes and misdemeanors are not treated with the gravity they deserve and the Senate fails to act, we might as well send out invitations to countries around the world, China, Saudi Arabia and others, encouraging them to contribute to the candidate of the choosing. Actually, President Trump has already done that: “Russia, if you are listening. . . .”

This president has ignored the Constitution on more than these occasions. He has acted in a way that shows his disdain for the rule of law. He has lost the trust of the majority of Americans, and needs to be removed from office.
