State Senator Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield, is accepting resumes from constituents interested in attending the 84th Citizens’ Legislative Seminar set for March 24 and 25 at the State House in Boston.
Established in 1976 through a collaborative effort of the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts Boston, the two-day seminar is geared toward adults interested in learning more about state government and the legislative process.
According to a press release, topics include the history and process of the Legislature, the state budget, the parliamentary role of the clerk of the senate and the future of the Legislature. The seminar will also walk participants through how bills are introduced, debated and passed.
The Citizens’ Legislative Seminar culminates with a simulated legislative hearing and senate session, where participants act as mock senators to have a first-hand experience of the legislative process, the release states.
Each state senator can nominate and sponsor one constituent to attend the seminar. Interested residents who live in Hinds’ Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin, Hampden District — which includes the Franklin County towns of Shelburne, Conway, Heath, Hawley, Rowe, Monroe, Charlemont, Buckland and Ashfield — are asked to email him their resume by noon on Jan. 3 at Adam.Hinds@MASenate.gov for consideration.
Those interested in Hinds’ nomination must be able to attend both days of the seminar. Attendees are responsible for arranging their travel and lodging plans.
