Warwick seeks accountant

WARWICK — The town is looking for a new accountant or accounting firm.

According to Town Coordinator David Young, Warwick may hire another contractor and is looking into hiring a shared employee with the towns of Rowe and Heath. The Franklin Regional Council of Governments is helping with the search. One more town needs to join for the position to be considered a full-time job.

Warwick is also talking with employees from its current accounting firm, and interested, qualified candidates can reach out to Young at 978-544-6315 or coordinator@town.warwick.ma.us, or to members of the Selectboard.

Leyden voters approve transfers

LEYDEN — Special Town Meeting voters authorized transferring money from free cash to different accounts on Monday.

Municipal Assistant Michelle Giarusso said $8,000 was transferred to the building repairs and maintenance account; $8,500 to the town accountant salary account; $3,000 to the town counsel account; $3,000 to the Selectboard’s expense account to implement a reverse 911 system; $4,000 to the Leyden Police expense account to purchase a speed board sign; $8,000 to the Selectboard’s computer account to purchase and upgrade town computers; and $65,034 to the stabilization account.

Open Meeting Law case closed

NORTHFIELD — The Attorney General’s Office has closed the matters of two complaints filed in regards to allegations of Open Meeting Law violations by the Northfield Selectboard and Finance Committee on June 13.

The complaints alleged the committees had not given proper notification of the scheduled meetings.

The Attorney General’s Office said it received a response to the complaints from the Selectboard and Finance Committee on July 15. The office also requested copies of the original complaint by Sept. 20, or it would consider the actions taken by the board and committee as sufficient and close the complaint files. The Attorney General’s office received no record from the complainant, and considers these matters closed as of Oct. 2.
