Northfield seeks MVP grant

NORTHFIELD — The Selectboard signed a letter of support for a town application to the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program during its most recent meeting.

According to Mass.gov, the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) grant program provides support for cities and towns in Massachusetts to begin the process of planning for climate change resiliency and implementing priority projects. The state awards communities with funding to complete vulnerability assessments and develop action-oriented resiliency plans.

“They give us additional funding because our Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan expired,” said Town Administrator Andrea Llamas. “I have applied for additional money through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to cover the cost of updating that plan with hopefully no cost to the town.”

According to Llamas, information that comes from developing resiliency plans will be applied to the town’s Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and Open Space Plan, which are both up for renewal.
