Members of the band SpaceBar encourages music lovers to forget about their phones and electronic devices for an evening of rock ’n’ roll on Friday.
The concert will start at 7 p.m. in Warwick Town Hall and is sponsored by the Warwick Arts Council. A suggested donation of $5 will benefit the Warwick Community School.
The band, which has been performing for a little over a year, consists of Pioneer Valley musicians Michael Italia on guitar and vocals, Jim McRae on keyboard and vocals, Ivan Ussach on drums and Jim Bennet on saxophone. They will play Friday alongside Matt Hickler on bass, who is filling in for regular bandmate Angela Haynes, of Petersham.
“Everyone in the band, they’re not just good players, they’re good people,” Usaach said. “It’s nice to be part of an outfit that gets along.”
He described SpaceBar’s catalog as an eclectic mix of danceable music, noting that one fan-favorite is a cover of ZZ Top’s “Cheap Sunglasses.” SpaceBar’s concerts feature covers of hit artists ranging from Eric Clapton, The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, to Stevie Wonder or Chuck Berry.
“We’re always looking to add new material,” Usaach said.
The band rehearses regularly, and plays a gig once or twice a month, he said. In addition to Friday’s concert, SpaceBar will play at the Gardner Ale House in December, and at the Hitchcock Brewing Company’s new location in Bernardston in January.
