PITTSFIELD — With the holidays fast approaching, state Sen. Adam Hinds has announced his second annual Holiday Card Design Contest.

Hinds began preparing for the contest back in September by sending packages to 57 schools across his district — which includes the towns of Conway, Shelburne, Buckland, Ashfield, Charlemont, Hawley, Heath, Rowe and Monroe — to invite students in third through sixth grade to participate.

The winning design, chosen from the hundreds of entries, will be used as the cover art for Hinds’ 2019 holiday greeting card, which he mails to almost 1,000 friends, family members, colleagues and constituents each December. According to a press release about the contest, the winning student artist will be identified by name, age, grade, hometown and school on the card; will be featured in the Hinds’ media and social media outreach; and will win a pizza party for his or her classroom with Hinds.

“One of my favorite things to do is visit local schools and interact with students of all ages,” Hinds said. “I love the holidays, and I love to see children’s excitement during the holiday season. This contest lets our team tap into that excitement and spread cheer throughout the community.”

Three hundred and forty-eight students from a dozen schools across Western Massachusetts entered last year, the press release states. The winning drawing was submitted by Savannah Reber as a sixth-grader at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School. Hinds’ Pittsfield office was decorated with cards for weeks.

“Visitors in my office loved looking at all the artwork” Hinds said. “I know I’m looking forward to seeing them as well.”

The contest is open to all students in grades three through six who live in one of the 52 municipalities in Hinds’ district.

Contest entries must be dropped off to Hinds’ Pittsfield office no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. They must be dropped off during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, or mailed to Senator Adam Hinds Holiday Greeting Card Contest, 100 North St., Suite 410, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Entries can also be scanned (in color) and emailed to Adam.Hinds@masenate.gov.

Entry forms were mailed to schools in Hinds’ district and are also available on his social media pages or by contacting his office.

The winning student will be announced in December.
