HAWLEY — A celebration of community and the turning of the seasons will take center stage this Sunday during the Sons and Daughters of Hawley’s event, Apple Fest.
Sons and Daughters of Hawley, a historical society, will sponsor the dinner, which will be hosted by Melanie Poudrier and her husband, Ray, at their Pond Road home.
The free event is open to all Hawley residents or those with ties to Hawley, Poudrier said, and will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.
“This is just a social gathering,” she said, adding that she looks forward to visiting with friends and neighbors.
Poudrier will prepare a ham to share, as well as an appetizer and squash dish. For other prospective menu items, she remained hush.
“It’s part of the surprise,” she said, adding that “there’s usually an apple pie or two.”
Poudrier is no stranger to hosting events for the group; she estimated that she’s been hosting a summer luncheon for Sons and Daughters of Hawley for about 10 years, and has been hosting Apple Fest for the past four.
“Our house is big enough and I don’t mind hosting,” she explained of the space required to feed the 25 to 30 people who are anticipated for this year’s Apple Fest.
Poudrier said her ties to Hawley date back to 1968, but that her husband’s family has been in Hawley since 1943.
“When we got married, this is where we ended up,” she said. “And I can’t think of a better place to live, any time of year.”
Poudrier said an email RSVP to poudriermel27@yahoo.com is appreciated from anyone looking to attend Apple Fest.
