I moved to Greenfield 15 years ago. I love so many things about our city: driving for Meals on Wheels, dancing, our co-op, YMCA, the beauty of nature, the opportunity to make a difference.
I am constantly telling my friends from Boston and places further to move here. They always ask me the same questions: What are the schools like? How is your library? What is there to do? Is Greenfield growing affordable housing? What is the business and professional climate? Are there unions? Is there good public transportation? Is the community friendly to minorities and immigrants?
I talk with pride of the multiple worker-owned cooperative businesses in town and about the amazing work of the Franklin Community Development Corp. I glow about our amazing arts scene that is growing, and the mecca of contra dancing in the U.S. at the Guiding Star Grange. I point out many houses and businesses with solar arrays. I tell stories of our great police and fire departments.
However … those important questions, I’m not so proud of the answers. When Sheila Gilmour is elected, I will be able to answer people’s important questions positively.
Sheila is a fierce proponent of education and a longtime union member, and with her experience and understanding she can help our schools be something of which we are proud. Sheila takes the needs of all people, young and old, rich or poor, abled or challenged, LGBTQ or heterosexual/cisgendered, she will fight for what is right.
