On Oct. 25, the Recorder published two articles about a visit from the Bristol County Sheriff who spoke about immigration and safe cities. He was heckled, criticized, and berated by some of the crowd attending his presentation. The newspaper articles demonstrate a complete lack of respect for the sheriff and all he said.
The Sheriff must have left with a feeling of disgust over the actions of Greenfield residents, which he will most likely share when he is home.
The “Safe City” supporters at the meeting apparently have no room for opposing views on their proposal.
If their ballot question passes, we may end up with a “safe city” but may lose an old American tradition called freedom of speech.
I hope a town official contacted the sheriff and apologized for the uncouth behavior at this meeting.
