What a way to cap the regular season for the Mahar Regional School girls soccer team.
The visiting Senators picked up another impressive victory, going on the road and knocking off Berkshire County powerhouse Mount Greylock, 1-0, in an independent contest on Wednesday in Williamstown.
The victory gives the program a school-record 15 wins, as the club finished the regular season with a sterling 15-1-2 mark.
“It’s been a hell of regular season and this win was a great way to end it,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “It’s not easy beating really good teams in the Berkshires. That being said we need to play and finish better if we are going to have success in the tournament. We left a lot of goals out there and we need to finish our opportunities.”
Micalyn Mailloux scored the game’s lone tally with 13:30 remaining in the first half, taking a feed from Delaney Parker to make it a 1-0 game.
That would be enough to get the win, as goalkeeper Maddie Lloyd made four saves to pick up the shutout. Softic lauded the play of sweeper Gracie Rich and stopper Natalie Belloli, with the duo neutralizing the attacking players for Mount Greylock (12-4-2).
The Senators will learn their postseason fate on Friday, when the WMass Division 3 seeds are released.
Wahconah 7, Athol 2 — Kevin Huban had himself a day for Warriors, scoring four goals to lead host Wahconah to a 7-2 independent win over Athol on Wednesday.
Nick Bousquet scored on a corner kick in the first half for the Red Raiders, and Bryce King, who started in goal and made 11 saves, moved up and scored late in the second half.
Northampton 4, Frontier 1 — Red Hawk Ethan DeMaio scored two minutes into the contest off an assist from Tenzin Tsundue, but things went downhill from there for Frontier. The visitors allowed four straight goals to fall, 4-1, to the Blue Devils in an independent contest on Wednesday in Northampton.
Tommy Harte scored twice to lead Northampton to its second win of the season. Nick Jarvis had seven stops in goal for the Red Hawks.
Frontier closes out its season today against Monson at 3 p.m.
Drury 4, Mohawk Trail 1 — In its final regular season game before the tournament, the Warriors allowed three goals in the first 16 minutes to fall to the host Blue Devils, 4-1, in an independent game.
Jaime Colemenjaro scored the lone goal for Mohawk Trail in the 50th minute off a dish from Oscar Cassin. Reuben Bassett made 12 saves in the loss.
Hunter Sarkis had a hat trick for Drury.
The Warriors now await their seed in the WMass Div. 4 Tournament.
NMH
Northfield Mount Hermon 2, Loomis 1 — Aniela Jensen and Jordan Lafave found the back of the net in NMH’s 2-1 defeat of host Loomis Chaffee on Wednesday.
Peyton Pettiford-Rowan and Emma Wennar picked up assists in the win and Maria Echezarreta came up with seven saves.
