HIRSCHFELD
HIRSCHFELD

Editor’s note: Norman Hirschfeld is running unopposed for Precinct 9 city councilor in the Nov. 5 Greenfield general election.

Address: 41 Meadow Lane

Occupation (past/present): Machinist, retired

Political experience: Five-plus years on the City Council; I have served on the Ways & Means Committee, the Economic Development Committee, and presently chair the Community Relations and Education Committee.

How long have you lived in Greenfield? 11 years

What qualities would you bring to the City Council? Experience and understanding of municipal finance. Ability to work cooperatively on committees and boards. Have been on the Franklin Community Cooperative Board for nine years.

Are you up-to-date on your property taxes? Have you ever been delinquent on your payments? Yes; no delinquency.

Which subcommittees would you be interested in serving on and why? Ways and Means and Economic Development. I have previously served on these committees. They are very important committees.

Dissatisfied voters petitioned to put the library and safe city ordinance on the ballot. What does that say about the confidence voters have in the City Council to make decisions on their behalf? Presently, it takes a few hundred signatures to get something on the ballot, which to me doesn’t necessarily indicate large voter dissatisfaction or lack of voter confidence.

The city charter is expected to undergo revisions next year. What changes should be made, if any? Increase the number of signatures required to put something on the ballot. The current number is way too low.
