Immigration. Gun control. Abortion. Impeachment. These are all important issues, deserving thoughtful debate and careful decision-making. The thing is, none of this thoughtful debate and careful decision making belongs at the local level of government.

It seems Greenfield as of late has been producing political types who excel at agitating but who are no good at negotiating, legislating and budgeting. In fact, their listening isn’t all that good, either. What we end up with are solutions in search of problems, while real budget and economic problems grow.

For almost two decades, Brickett Allis has been flying under the radar of these hot topic issues. Choosing instead to focus on the residents and taxpayers, working on dull things like Greenfield’s financial practices, debt management, capital budgets and municipal bonding. These issues aren’t flashy until they are mishandled. Then school closures and picket lines will be front page news.

When voting for mayor, I will not be concerned with who can give the best two-minute practiced answers to national issues that don’t belong at the local level. There are more important criteria. Who is going to know what is actually going on in local government and, more importantly, has experience? Who requires no education on municipal finance? Who won’t be in over their head? The answer is Brickett Allis, 300 Wells St. I encourage you to write him in on election day Nov. 5.
