Thursday night I had a profound and disturbing experience while protesting against the Bristol County sheriff and need to share that experience.
My friend Sonia and I were holding signs outside John Zon Community Center when we saw an elderly gentleman leaving the forum. When we asked him to talk about what he heard in there, he started calmly discussing what took place, but suddenly broke down and cried in our arms, saying he was overwhelmed by the hate he felt in the room.
At least three of our current city councilors gleefully welcomed hate into our community. I am all about civility, but this is totally unacceptable. It is obvious that we have a lot of work to do in terms of education, but it is clear we must not remain silent. Thank you to all those who stand together and believe we are made stronger by being a diverse community. We lead busy and at times stressful lives, but I urge you to take a few minutes and do something to further the cause of goodness in our community. We simply must do better.
