GREENFIELD — Parents and guardians of students at the Discovery School at Four Corners are invited to attend the sixth annual Harvest Sampler on Friday from 5 to 6 p.m.

The supper will be held on the blacktop part of the playground behind the school.

According to a Discovery School press release, the event serves as a time for students, staff and families to share recipes and sample homemade dishes. These dishes consist of fruits and vegetables students have studied and harvested from their class gardens.

“The Harvest Sampler is truly an event that brings everyone together and supports student learning,” Principal Jake Toomey said. “We all look forward to coming together and sharing in the delights from the garden.”

As part of the Discovery School’s thematic curriculum, students in each grade are responsible for learning about a different crop:

■kindergartners: apples

first-graders: corn

■second-graders: carrots

third-graders: potatoes

fourth-graders: squash.

Each grade plants their crop in the spring of the previous school year, according to the press release. Each fall, along with working in their garden beds, students study their respective fruits or vegetables in their classrooms. This often includes bringing cooking into the classroom by trying out different recipes.

The Harvest Sampler is the culmination of student work and learning as they create dishes with their families and guardians using their respective fruits or vegetables as the primary ingredient, the release states

All dishes must be nut-free and the ingredients must be listed on a provided recipe form. It is a carry in/carry out event, so attendees are invited to bring their own utensils and dishes as well as beverages.
