Wendell Road paving to start Oct. 9

WARWICK — Paving on Wendell Road between Quarry Road and the Orange town line will start on Wednesday, weather permitting.

While paving is being done, the stretch of roadway will be closed to all traffic. Town officials say police officers will help direct traffic.

Upon completion of paving along Wendell Road, crews will move to Athol Road in the area of Richmond Road and pave east to the town line. Single-lane traffic will be in effect for this phase of the project.

Metcalf Chapel preparing apple pies

WARWICK — October is apple pie baking time for the Metcalf Chapel. But this year, the chapel is taking a new, energy-conscious approach to its annual pie sale.

The chapel will assemble, but not bake the pies for sale, according to Pastor Dan Dibble. Instead, buyers will be able to bake them at home or place them in their freezer for a later date.

“We will have pies fully ready to put in the oven or the freezer,” Dibble said.

He explained the chapel has opted not to run the stoves in Town Hall for such a large production, in an effort to be more energy-conscious.

The chapel already has pie orders coming, and is anticipating many more, Dibble said. Orders may be called in to the Metcalf Chapel office at 978-544-2630. Instructions for baking will be provided with the pies, which cost $10 each. Orders can be picked up between Wednesday and Friday.
