SUNDERLAND — The town’s police chief took to social media last Thursday to try to clarify to residents the speed limits throughout Sunderland.
Erik J. Demetropoulos, who has been chief for three years, wrote on his department’s Facebook page that the newly-installed 25-mph signs at certain town lines are meant to inform motorists entering Sunderland of the new speed limit in thickly settled areas and the town’s business districts. The speed limit in the rest of town, he said, remains at 40 mph, and there are signs throughout town to let people know when that limit applies.
Demetropoulos said the signs were installed by the Sunderland Highway Department a month or two ago. He said the signs are in response to various complaints from residents about speeding drivers.
