Congratulations to Jami Witherell, former teacher at Newton Elementary School, for being honored by Good Morning America and awarded $30,000 for her work with Donorschoose.org.
Donorschoose.org is an online organization where people donate to fund classroom projects, and she was in the top 1 percent of those who raised money. She is an amazing woman who deserves this award. If we all could be lucky enough to have someone in our lives like her, things would be so much brighter.
My daughter went to Newton School and was lucky enough to at least know Ms. Witherell. She was so hoping to get her as a fourth-grade teacher, and when she found out she’d be having her, we all got so excited. But right before the school year started, we were informed she would be teaching second grade instead of fourth. To say we were disappointed was an understatement.
We knew how special a teacher she is. But all the teachers at Newton are wonderful! Any child, whether at Newton School or at her new school in Springfield, is blessed to have her as a teacher. So thank you Ms. Witherell for being such an amazing teacher. But thank you even more for being such a beautiful person inside and out.
