The current concern about undocumented (illegal) immigrants focuses on criminals entering the country. There are other reasons to oppose ignoring the rules.
This true example shows one reason.
In 1920, an extended family wanted to emigrate from Italy to the USA. They went through the proper procedures and when it was time to leave, a health inspection of everyone was made.
A child, Guido, was found to have an eye infection and the Italian officials did not allow him to go to the USA. The remaining Italians did go.
Fortunately, Guido’s ailment was cured and he lived a full life in Italy. And the disease was kept in check, not spread to other passengers on the ship or Americans later.
This is how immigration should work. Persons who simply sneak in are unknowingly putting everyone at risk.
