GREENFIELD — The Greenfield office of the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) has moved to 298 Federal St. on the former Lunt Silversmith property.
The office was previously located in the Corporate Center on Munson Street and before that, it was on Arch Street. Department of Transitional Assistance Chief of Staff Melissa Pullin in Boston said DTA works with the state Division of Capital Assets Management and Maintenance on facilities, generally leasing space for 10 years. It began leasing the office at the Corporate Center in 2009.
The DTA is responsible for managing and monitoring services provided to low-income individuals and their families that include services that help them meet their basic needs, improve their quality of life and help them achieve long-term economic self-sufficiency. It provides case management, information and referrals, as well.
According to the state DTA, it serves one in nine residents in Massachusetts with cash benefits and food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It also provides workforce training.
According to DTA statistics, more about 5,200 people were served in Franklin County in August — the state keeps monthly totals for all offices throughout Massachusetts. The most served were from Greenfield at more than 2,100 of the total.
