BERNARDSTON — An Interstate 91 stop Thursday led to three arrests for trafficking fentanyl and cocaine.
According to a statement from Massachusetts State Police, Luke Perry, 30, and Mandie-Rae Perry, 29, both of Newport, Vt., and Eddie Torres, 33, of New York City, N.Y., were arrested around 3 a.m. after a stop by troopers from the State Police Shelburne Falls Barracks.
All three were charged with trafficking in cocaine; conspiracy to violate drug laws; trafficking in fentanyl; and possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute.
In addition, Luke Perry was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; motor vehicle equipment violation; and a marked lanes violation, and Torres was charged with resisting arrest; failure to wear a seatbelt; and carrying a dangerous weapon.
According to State Police, Trooper Bejamin Poirier and Field Training Officer Trooper Michael Leslie were patrolling I-91 north in Bernardston, when they saw a red Hyundai that, after appearing to be exiting the highway, continued straight in the incorrect lane of travel.
After pulling the vehicle over, the driver, Luke Perry, was found to have a suspended Vermont driver’s license. While removing Luke Perry from the vehicle to place him in handcuffs, the troopers saw a “crack pipe” lying on the floor near the driver’s seat.
“Given the discovery of the crack pipe, Trooper Poirier requested a K-9 search to be conducted on the vehicle,” the statement reads.
The two passengers were removed and Greenfield Police Officer Emily Rowell arrived to assist with the female passenger. Captain Scott Waldron of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, with K-9 Uno, and Trooper Michael Garceau also arrived to conduct a thorough search.
The search yielded a “large sheathed knife,” crack cocaine, powder cocaine and 500 individually packaged wax bags of heroin or fentanyl. All three suspects were booked and held without bail pending their arraignment in Greenfield District Court.
