It’s very important to me as a parent of two children in our school system that our new mayor understands the importance of focusing attention on our youth and making sure we create a city they can be proud of and participate in. That’s why I’ll be voting for RoxannWedegartner for mayor, and I encourage others with school-age children to do the same.
I attended RoxannWedegartner’s announcement in February and what stood out and impressed me was she put our youth and youth services in her platform. I recall she committed to working together with parents, the schools, the Recreation Department, the library, and youth organizations to offer more activities and outreach to the youth of Greenfield. She promised to work with the parents of skateboarders to make a new skateboard park a reality in Greenfield. She committed to bringing back the youth services coordinator position to our city. This person will reach out to our youth to hear their needs, and develop programs or assistance to meet those needs. It would be great to have a Youth Center again, too.
Given that the mayor sits on the Greenfield School Committee as a voting member, I also like that she’s served on the committee in the past. She’ll be ready on day one for this part of the job. Her experience will be an asset to the School Committee, which will include new members again this year. I’m voting for Roxann for mayor and encourage others with school-age children to do the same.
