NORTHFIELD — The Pioneer Valley Regional School band is holding a community tag sale Saturday to raise money for a school music trip to Chicago next April.

“In Chicago, the band will be performing with students from all over the country,” said Deborah Potee, a parent of two Pioneer band students who helped organize the fundraiser.

The tag sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 55 Main St. in Northfield. Potee said families were asked to donate items, and residents have been dropping plenty of items off already.

“It will be a lot of fun with band students playing music during the day,” Potee said.

Band Director Tim Burns said students will arrive at around 10 a.m. and will conduct small performances throughout the sale. There will also be a bake sale.

This year’s trip will cost approximately $1,100 per student without fundraising, Burns said. The cost for the trip will include travel costs, as students will fly to Chicago, as well as hotel fees and food for the weekend.

“The tag sale and other fundraising efforts will help bring the total cost down for all students,” Burns said.

The tag sale is one of many fundraising efforts planned for the upcoming school year.

“We’re hoping to have one or two fundraiser events a month,” Burns said.

The Pioneer band held a similar tag sale fundraiser two years ago, and raised $2,000 for its trip. The Northfield Kiwanis Club and other town organizations have also donated money toward school trips in the past.
