Over the next month or so, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County will be dancing like no one is watching.

Horizon Organic has teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to launch the #HorizonConfiDANCE campaign in which the company will donate money to the national organization and offer prizes to local branches that enter the contest.

According to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County Executive Director Jennifer Webster, her staff of six, along with other community partners and members, are planning the videos they’ll submit.

“It’s a national campaign, but there will also be a chance for local agencies to win $5,000 or $25,000,” Webster said. “We haven’t done it yet, but our plan is to have something online by mid-September.”

Horizon Organic, part of Danone North America in Broomfield, Colo., and White Plains, N.Y., has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America for the upcoming back-to-school season to “power up passions” with the campaign. The company is asking consumers to take photos and post them to Instagram or Facebook to show their #HorizonConfiDANCE. For every dance shared by Sept. 30 using the hashtag, the company will donate $5 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, up to $200,000. It will also offer several prizes of $5,000 and $25,000 to local agencies.

Webster said the videos the local agency creates will be posted on social media and its website. She said it will probably create smaller videos and one larger one.

“We hope to win one of the prizes,” she said. “The money would go into the general operating budget. It’s not like a grant, so it’s not restricted.”

Webster said 60 percent of the agency’s funding comes from grants, while the other 40 percent comes from donations.

“It’s always good to have Big Brothers Big Sisters highlighted,” she said. “The national organization not only provides us with safety standards, training and programs standards, but looks for all sorts of ways, including this one, to help local agencies.”
