GREENFIELD — Much like students who have changed their hair or wardrobe over the summer, Greenfield’s public schools have a new look, too, with new programs, teachers and other changes.
There will be a meet and greet on Monday at each of the schools, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Four Corners, Newton and Federal Street Elementary schools; from 6 to 7 p.m. at Greenfield Middle School; and from 7 to 8 p.m. at Greenfield High School.
Those who attend the middle school meet and greet can see the school, visit with teachers and new Principal Lynn Dole, and meet support staff, while those who attend the high school session can take tours, learn about extracurricular activities and get their class schedules.
New principal at Greenfield Middle School
After three rounds of interviews, Dole was hired as the new principal of Greenfield Middle School, according to a press release from Superintendent Jordana Harper.
Dole, who grew up in Shelburne and now lives in Ashfield, has been an educator in local schools since 1997. She taught social studies, English and, when needed, math and health, for 12 years at Mohawk Trail Regional School before becoming the district’s curriculum director. She later led the school as principal/co-principal for nine years.
“We are pleased that Lynn brings her many years of experience as a school leader, and deep understanding of teaching and learning to our community,” Harper said. “The school has engaged in a thoughtful and deliberate process of planning to focus on student achievement and engagement, to continue to serve Greenfield youth as well as be the best choice for Franklin County residents of middle-school aged students. We are pleased that Ms. Dole is ready to support that ongoing work, and focus on positive communication with families and staff.”
According to the release, Dole joins two returning associate principals, Mike Browning and Michelle Fenimore.
“I’m eager to work with the community of educators at Greenfield Middle School,” Dole said. “I’ve so appreciated the warm welcome I’ve received, and I look forward to meeting the rest of the staff and, of course, students and families in the coming days and weeks.”
Thanks to grant funding, Greenfield High School Principal Karin Patenaude said a new second chance breakfast cart will be available at 9:15 a.m. daily starting on Sept. 3.
“Kids can take three items with them and then go to their next class,” Patenaude said. “Some kids take a while to get hungry in the morning or don’t eat breakfast before school, so this gives them another chance to have breakfast.”
Due to retirements and other changes in staff, Patenaude said Greenfield High School will have 11 new staff members this year, including a music director, French teacher, art teacher, special education instructor, eighth-grade math teacher and an eighth-grade English teacher.
“Veteran teachers help with the transition of working in a new school,” Patenaude said, “and the new staff are thrilled about it.”
