Kidleidoscope Fridays: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. Come each week to learn about our wildlife neighbors who share our home in the Connecticut River Watershed. Kidleidoscope is a free child-friendly, hands-on environmental experience for young children. Each topic includes a story, interactive activities and a craft to introduce you and your child to the natural world. For ages 3 to 6. For more information, call 413-863-3221.

Girls into the Wild: Thursdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Sept.12 to Dec. 19 (no program Oct. 31 or Nov. 28). Sometimes, girls just need to run, explore and play outdoors. Girls into the Wild is designed to get girls outside, playing and engaging with nature in their own way. Instructor Katie Koerten will offer games and activities that each girl can participate in at her own comfort level. Families provide their own transportation to the Hitchcock Center for the Environment. Members: $355. Non-members: $426. Ages 8 to 11, grades three to five.
Universal Access Program
Adaptive Canoeing and Fishing Program: Tuesdays, through Aug. 27 (times vary). Experience wilderness canoeing/fishing on pristine, scenic Pottapaug Pond in Petersham. Explore miles of nature and paddle past islands, coves and wildlife. Bring your sunscreen and hats, lunch, drinking water, fishing gear (there will be some gear available for use) and other necessary supplies as there are no concessions nearby. Equipment, instruction, support, and life jackets are provided. An adaptive fishing instructor will be at the Aug. 27 event. Cost is $8 per person. Art Exhibit: Cantos from the Woods: Open through Aug. 30. Sculpture by David Flood and paintings by Maggie Hodges. David Flood’s work leads him into forests to encounter how the forces of nature act on the figure of wood. Maggie Hodges recently discovered a passion for oil painting. She loves the ability to layer the paint and to create texture and depth while capturing the beauty of the world around her.
Mohawk Trail State Forest
Kidleidoscope in Charlemont: The popular children’s program, Kidleidoscope, comes to Mohawk Trail State Park. Kids ages 2 to 6 are invited to join these fun and engaging activity sessions where they will learn about nature through stories, crafts and outdoor activities. Activities are designed to help inspire children to respect nature and adopt caring mannerisms when dealing with plants and animals of all sizes. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
