Residents may notice helicopters flying over Franklin County on Thursday and Friday, but there’s no need to be alarmed.
Eversource will be conducting aerial inspections of high-voltage electrical equipment on rights of way throughout Western Massachusetts. According to an Eversource press release, this semiannual inspection involves using a helicopter equipped with heat-sensing, infrared scanning technology that can detect potential equipment issues before they occur.
The aerial inspections will occur, weather permitting, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. over the course of the two days.
The helicopter that will be used will be blue and silver, and features “N1431W” on its tail, according to the release.
The Franklin County towns where Eversource will be conducting inspections include: Ashfield, Bernardston, Buckland, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Erving, Gill, Greenfield, Leverett, Leyden, Montague, Northfield, Shelburne, Shutesbury, Sunderland and Whately.
