MONTAGUE — The town has applied for a state grant to replace the Fifth Street pedestrian bridge, the smaller bridge next to the green bridge on the canal.
The pedestrian bridge has been closed since August, when it failed a state inspection, and is generally seen as beyond repair, said Town Administrator Steve Ellis.
The grant is from the state’s MassWorks Infrastructure grant. If the town receives funding, construction would begin in 2020, said Town Planner Walter Ramsey. He said the town expects to hear back in October.
GILL — The Fire Department is looking to buy a used tanker truck, and received Selectboard authorization for the purchase on Aug. 5.
The truck is a 2010 model, now in Grovespring, Mo. The asking price is $165,000.
Gill Fire Chief Gene Beaubien said that the details of the deal are being worked out, and he does not know yet when the Gill Fire Department will receive the truck.
ERVING — The Fire Department received 10 new Knox Boxes through a donation by the Friends of the Senior Center last week, a value of $1,673.
A Knox Box is a lock box mounted on a resident’s front door, which holds a key to the house. Only the Fire Department and Police Department can open the lock box, allowing them access to the house in an emergency without having to damage doors or windows.
The Fire Department debuted the program in July, with an initial purchase of 16 Knox Boxes. This donation from the Friends of the Senior Center gives the town a total of 26 boxes.
