Steve Jones’ total of 51 was good enough for low gross honors in the Woods Flight at the Country Club of Greenfield’s Par 3 Championship over the weekend.
Tom Herzig took second with a 54, while KC Finley, John Varner and Jamie Crocker tied for third at 56.
In the Nicklaus Flight, Chuck Yetter, James La Fleur and Michael Duclos tied for first place with 55s.
In the Palmer Flight, Ed Pedruczny nabbed first with a 59, followed in second by Matt Pitoniak (61).
Dan Young won the Player Flight with a 60, ahead of runners-up Ernie Patnode and Terry Sinclair (63).
James Worden took first in the Hogan Flight by one stroke with a 62, ahead of runner-up Doug Muehlberg (63).
In the Snead Flight, Bob Lively’s 56 was plenty good enough to take first place. Robert Ferris was the runner-up with a 61.
Teresa Varner won the Sorenstam Flight with a 56, followed by Kathie Fahey (59). Ryan Blanchard won the Zaharias Flight (63) with Jane Plumley second (66). Irene Woods won the Inkster Flight with a 53. Ann McHugh was second at 55.
In the Fowler Flight, Owen Finley’s 69 put him ahead of Brady Booska’s 74 and Nate Blanchard’s 75.

Frontier fall start times
Frontier Regional School announced the following opening dates and times for their 2019 fall sports season.
• Varsity and JV football will have its equipment handout Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. Conditioning practice will be Friday, Aug. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m.
• Middle school football opens Monday, Aug. 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
• Boys and girls cross country grades 7-12 begins Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m behind the High School.
• Boys soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 8-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9:45 a.m. to noon and 5-7:00 p.m. at Herlihy Park.
• Boys middle school soccer begins Thursday, Aug. 22 from 12-1:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.
• Girls soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 7-12 is Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8-10:00 a.m. and 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.
• Field hockey varsity, JV and middle school tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. till noon.
• Girls volleyball tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22. Returning varsity players, JV players and newcomers grades 10-12 will go from 1-4 p.m, seventh graders, eighth graders and newcomers grades 7-9 go from 5-7 p.m.
• Golf tryouts for grades 7-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.
• All potential players must register on Family ID (Familyid.com) and have a medical exam, within 13 months of the first practice date, on record with Frontier to be eligible to participate. Please be aware that student athletes will become ineligible to participate on the exact day 13 months from their last physical exam date.

Turners Falls High School and Great Falls Middle School announced the starting dates and times for the upcoming fall 2019 athletic season. There is also a mandatory fall athlete meeting the first day of school at 2:30 p.m. in the high school theater.

Montague Mug Race
Registration is still going for the 39th annual Montague Mug Race, set for Aug. 17 at the Village Common.
The 5.5-mile race blasts off at 8:30 a.m. Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male/female finishers and coffee mugs to top finishers of each division. T-shirts are given to the first 90 runners.
Now in its 15th year, the Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35. This 2-mile course is a great scenic route around the Old South Cemetery. Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes. The course is well marked with plenty of water stops and features a few challenging hills with a run along the Connecticut River.
Don Maynard Race
The 25th Annual Don Maynard 5 Mile Road Race and 2.5 mile walk is set for Sept. 21, starting at 9:30 a.m.
