So on page A6 of today’s Recorder (Aug. 6) we have an editorial cartoon bemoaning the recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, depicting two blood soaked assault rifles. Then on the next page, A7, we see a story reporting on the boffo box office receipts for the recent “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” Hollywood’s latest body-strewn, pumped up homage to violence. In the accompanying photo there are the two lead actors, the incomparable Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, ready for action, holding two assault rifles that would appear to be the same models as in the cartoon on the previous page.
Were your layout staff making their own editorial comment or didn’t you guys get the irony?
