A recent letter to the editor grossly misrepresented and discounted gerrymandering.

First off. the Supreme court did not say gerrymandering was OK, it said it was up to the states and state courts to deal with.

Which is highly questionable. since the state districts effect how congress is elected and how the electoral college votes are cast.

Be that as it may, the Republican party has executed, over 30 years, a focused effort to twist the districts in most states, surprised ?

The effort started in the South in the 1990’s, and heated up in 2010. So look up REDMAP, that lead to a 33-seat Republican margin in the House, despite Democratic candidates having had more votes in the general vote.

That recent SCOTUS case and many state cases are being driven by a Democrat effort to correct those twisted districts, see the Democratic Governors Assn. and National Democratic Redistricting Committee for more details.

Oh, and yes, it is named after a governor of Mass — in 1812, that created one district, so what.

Look at what is happening today — and act if you can.
