Thank you Anita Fritz for such a great article about an amazing gem. I, too, frequent the Quabbin Reservoir. Yes, if you’re looking for peace and quiet and beautiful scenery, this is the place to be.

Gate 29 also has an amazing view high above the Quabbin; it’s in about 2 miles along the power lines. Also there is Soapstone Ridge, which is located near the Daughters of the Revolution, which I believe is Gate 38. But no matte what gate you go in, you won’t be disappointed.

As Anita said, Gate 35 runs along the water after about a half mile, and is just incredible. You feel like you don’t want to leave. Definitely bring a picnic or your fishing pole, or spend the whole day just wandering the shoreline and enjoying the moment. You will definitely want to go back. But to make this time more amazing, shut your phone off or leave it in the car. Why ruin a good moment? Happy hiking!
