ORANGE — A 45-year-old Orange man was airlifted to Worcester’s University of Massachusetts Medical Center after his Harley Davidson collided with a sedan on Monday morning.

The Orange Police Department was called to the scene, at the intersection of East and West Main streets, at 10:49 a.m., Chief James Sullivan said. The town’s fire and ambulance departments also responded.

While the motorcyclist incurred some injuries, the operator of the Saab Sedan, an Orange woman in her 30s, walked away from the accident unharmed, Sullivan said. There were no passengers in the sedan.

Sullivan declined to provide information on the motorcyclist’s injuries. However, he said the man was airlifted in part because of the type of vehicle he was operating — a motorcycle.

The two vehicles had been traveling in opposite directions through the center of town, Sullivan said. The motorcycle, traveling westbound on East Main Street, collided with the sedan as it turned onto North Main Street, he explained.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office as well as two State Police sections: Collision Analysis and Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services, according to Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant Tom Ryan.
