GREENFIELD — The Sept. 10 preliminary election will have two races: for mayor and at-large City Council candidates.

Brickett Allis, Roxann Wedegartner and Sheila Gilmour are running for a four-year term as mayor. The two candidates who get the most votes will face off in the November general election.

James Henry, Philip Elmer, Christine Forgey, Terence Stigers and Michael Terounzo are running for councilor-at-large; two seats are available. The primary will narrow the field to four candidates.

Precinct 1 councilor candidates are Verne Sund and Edward Jarvis. Sund is the incumbent.

Daniel Guin is running unopposed for Precinct 2 councilor.

Precinct 3 councilor candidates are Virginia DeSorgher and Taunette Greene.

Candidate for Precinct 4 councilor, John Bottomley, turned in papers and met the signature requirement. James Henry took out papers, but did not return them for the July 23 deadline.

The Precinct 9 councilor candidate is Norman Hirschfeld, who currently serves in the position. Audrey Murphy took out papers, but did not return them for the July 23 deadline.

Each City Council position has a four-year term, with the exception of the Precinct 9 opening, which is for a two-year term.

There are three seats with four-year terms on the School Committee. Amy Proietti and Jean Walsh Wall are candidates. Susan Cameron Eckstrom turned in papers, but did not meet the signature requirement of 100 signatures.

One seat is available for a two-year term on the School Committee. Glenn Johnson, who is the incumbent, and Kia Burton-King are candidates. Cathy Gouch did not turn in papers by the July 23 deadline.

Three seats are available for the AK Warner Trust with a two-year term. Marilyn Hannan and Sally Ahearn are candidates. Both are incumbents.

Incumbent Richard Shortell is the only candidate for trustee under Oliver Smith with a two-year term.

There are no candidates for an assessor position and three seats on the Jennie Bascom Education Fund with a two-year term.
