GREENFIELD — Two Vermont men were arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Monday on heroin trafficking charges.
At approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Scott Boutell with the Shelburne Falls barracks stopped a 2017 Toyota Corolla on Interstate 91 northbound near Exit 28, according to a State Police press release.
As a result of an investigation, the driver, Kenneth Demingware, 28, and his passenger, Kyle Dennis, 26, both from Barre, Vt., were found to be in possession of approximately 1,520 wax paper bags of heroin, with an approximate weight of 30.4 grams.
Both men were placed under arrest and transported to the State Police Shelburne Falls barracks for booking.
Demingware was charged with trafficking heroin, conspiracy to violate drug law, motor vehicle operator refusing to identify himself, arrestee furnishing a false name/Social Security number, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. He also had a warrant for his arrest.
Dennis was charged with trafficking heroin, conspiracy to violate drug law, tampering with evidence and littering from a motor vehicle.
Bail was set for Demingware at $5,000 and Dennis at $2,500. Both were held at the Franklin County House of Correction.
