DEERFIELD — A teenage boy from Deerfield was sent to Baystate Franklin Medical Center Wednesday after the car he was driving hit a utility pole at the intersection of Mill Village and Stillwater roads shortly before 8 p.m.

The boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock. He was the only person in the vehicle.

The teen had been driving northbound on Mill Village Road and drove about 4 feet off the road, crashing into the pole, Ruddock said. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The car, a blue Toyota Corolla, incurred significant damage and was towed.

Eversource was requested to fix the utility pole, which was also damaged in the accident, Ruddock said.

Members of the Deerfield police and fire departments responded.
